6 months as a Software Engineer coming from Freelancing

Just a couple of days ago was the mark of my 6th month worked as a Software Engineer, so I thought it could make for an interesting article about my experiences during this period, a comparison of corporate work vs freelancing, what did I learn working as a Software Engineer, and more.

How is working a corporate job compared to Freelancing?

Well, from a technical standpoint, it certainly is what I hoped it would be; an environment where I would be able to polish all the knowledge I’ve gathered from Freelancing and get a roadmap towards career advancement.

Whereas in Freelancing I had to work a lot more and accumulate a lot of knowledge fast in order to compensate for the lack of my previous experience prior to working as a Freelancer, working a corporate job hasn’t been as much learning new technologies as it was enforcing the foundations and allowing me to learn how to write my code in a more elegant manner, as well as setting a much better structure to the code I’m writing.

Whereas in Freelancing I was always in a hurry to deliver products, no matter the quality of it, here, at least for the project I’m working on, it’s quite the opposite. I am now tasked with writing the best quality code I can, time being second to this; this was my…
